Shorthand for WindowsTM
Revision History for Versions 1.x through 5.x
Version 5.41 (6/15/98)
-
Changed all documentation to reflect new web site
and email address.
Version 5.40 (5/22/98)
-
The Date Input dialog and calendar is now Year 2000 compliant.
-
For Windows NT 4.0 only: When inserting a large quantity of text, Shorthand
may hang up if the text happens to contain valid Shorthand keywords. This
has been fixed.
Version 5.32 (10/24/97)
-
Added options in the Preferences box to turn off Shorthand's use of the
Ctrl+Space, Alt+Ins and Shift+Enter keys.
Version 5.31b (7/24/97)
-
Added ability to change Paste keystroke in the Preferences dialog box.
-
Added ability to add a delay between keystrokes for Windows 3.1 and Windows
95 in the Preferences dialog box.
-
Improved the 32-bit driver; now works better with Windows NT 4.0.
Version 5.30 - Pre-Release (12/11/96)
-
Added a spelling checker for checking contents of the Text to Type box.
-
Added support for Windows NT 4.0.
-
Shorthand no longer displays the "The Shorthand applicatiion is about to
close." message if you terminate Shorthand by shutting down Windows.
Version 5.24b (11/18/96)
-
Added VB.SPF, a sample dictionary containing common Visual Basic keywords.
-
The AutoReplace automatic capitalization feature has been improved.
-
Fixed bug where some message windows where hidden behind the main window.
Version 5.23 (11/9/96)
-
Shorthand now uses the Windows language driver to recognize most European
alphabets and keyboards containing keys with more than two characters on
them. Support for extended characters has also been improved.
Version 5.22 (11/6/96)
-
In addition to the Up and Down arrow keys, you can now also press Page
Up, Page Down, Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End in the Keyword box to navigate through
the Dictionary list.
-
The Field Input dialog boxes now float on top of all windows to prevent
them from being accidentally hidden by another application.
Version 5.21 (10/31/1996)
-
For shortcut keys containing Ctrl, Alt or Shift keys, you no longer have
to release those keys before entering another character.
-
If you use Ctrl+Ins or Alt+Ins to quickly add keywords, the keyword will
now be appended with a space and a period.
-
The dictionary files are now much more efficiently structured and are much
smaller in size.
Version 5.20 (10/27/1996)
-
This major revision implements the new AutoReplace and AutoComplete functions
that enable Shorthand to replace keywords as you type without the need
for pressing the leading hot key.
Version 5.11 (8/16/1996)
-
Version 5.11 contains major revisions to many parts of Shorthand.
-
The DEMO2.SPF dictionary that comes with the Shorthand files now includes
expanded examples of input fields. If you plan to use input fields in your
text, it is strongly recommended that you study the examples.
-
The contents of the Keyword box in the Main Window are now highlighted
after you press the Up, Down, Ctrl-Left or Ctrl-Right keys. This makes
it easier to enter a new keyword.
-
There is a new Editor Font button in the Preferences dialog box. This button
controls the text font that appears in all of Shorthand's multi-line text
edit boxes and pick lists.
-
The File Shortcuts list (in the Preferences box) now accepts program filenames
so you can now launch Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 applications with a single
keystroke. (Note: Shorthand displays Windows 95 long filenames using the
abbreviated short DOS filenames.) Since most of us can't remember all those
file shortcuts, the Main Window sports a new Shortcuts menu that lists
all your file shortcuts.
-
There is a new {@DELETELINE} tag. Shorthand removes all lines that contain
this tag before transferring the text to the word processor.
-
The way Shorthand processes input fields has been overhauled. The old Enter
Input Box is replaced by a series of input dialog boxes (one for each @INPUT
tag) which can be navigated forward and backward. You can access the Shorthand
dictionary and shortcuts while filling the free form input fields but the
Remain Iconized option (in the Preferences box) has no effect when filling
the input dialog boxes.
-
The syntax of all the {@INPUT} tags have been changed to support replaceable
variables. With replaceable variables, a string you enter into an input
field can automatically be inserted into other parts of the text.
-
The syntax for pick lists has been changed to support both single-selectable
and multi-selectable pick lists. You can also control what will be displayed
in the pick lists by using {@REM} tags.
Version 5.0 (5/96)
-
This major revision integrates 16-bit and 32-bit support into a single
version that works with both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 (but not Windows
NT 3.5).
-
Completely redesigned the GUI interface.
-
Added the ability to enter "tags" into text.
-
Added ability to simulate most keystrokes as well as text.
Version 4.0 (11/95)
-
This is a 32-bit version that works with Windows 95 but not Windows 3.1.
Version 3.0 (5/95)
-
Lots of improvements and bug fixes -- but still works only under Windows
3.1.
Version 1.0 (5/94)
-
Shareware version of Shorthand first released for Windows 3.1
Experimental Version (6/93)
-
The author, tired of entering long, repetitive words into WordPerfect for
Windows, creates a keyboard macro program to store and playback common
text.
